This Sunday night the UFC returns to Versus network live, Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, I'm not going to have time for a complete breakdown of this week. This was a week of hell. It 'started around the beginning of the drama that left me totally motivated to write. Fortunately, this seems to be blown on before, but it's already Saturday morning, and fights are tomorrow night, I do not think I have free time for the next 48 hours to devote to the actual writing preview. This was my last week at work so I have plenty of free time next week to write a piece of paper next weekend's UFC 132. Here is a brief summary of the paper.
This is by far the most interesting fights on the card. But I like the fight from a competitive standpoint. Despite the fall in the difficult times in his last three starts, Stevenson is still a quality fighter, but somewhat limited. Similarly, Vazquez has shown during his fight against Chad Mendes that talent, but ultimately flawed fighter. Vasquez will always win against the position of the powerful questions of fighters high confidence in his jiu-jitsu game from the back.
This spells trouble for Vazquez in any fight against a fighter cut from the same cloth as Chad Mendes and LC Davis. Given each of their respective faults, I see Steve Johnson as the most limiting. Unless it is able to get the top position and work his game, Stevenson is a fish out of water. Although Vazquez was more against the likes of Mendes, is it still good enough to stop wrestling takedowns Stevenson and probably keep the fight on the feet. Vazquez has the advantage on the feet, and here's a black belt in BJJ will probably find the most success against the pen blank.
